Antimicrobial Resistance
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of Africa’s most urgent health threats, undermining standard treatments and driving higher mortality and costs. Limited access to quality healthcare, unregulated antibiotic use, and weak surveillance systems intensify the challenge.
At PerHydrogen, our microbiology products — including Mueller-Hinton agar for antimicrobial susceptibility testing and our Khanyi range of chromogenic agars (currently in trial for ESBL and Candida detection) — directly support Africa CDC and WHO Africa’s priorities for AMR control.
By strengthening local capacity for rapid, reliable diagnostics, we help hospitals, labs, and manufacturers detect resistance early, guide effective treatment, and reduce reliance on imports. This alignment with international standards not only safeguards patient health but also advances Africa’s vision for self-reliant, resilient healthcare systems.
